MR-1 PoE and MioXM Connection

I am trying to connect my new MR-1 PoE to my MIO XM through a POE switch. With no router, is this possible? I can't get my MIO to see the MR-1. When trying to use the IP tool says no midi device connected. Any help would be really appreciated.
