can I control gt-1 patches

Hi folks, I'm mostly a guitar player who knows very little about midi so I was wondering if someone can tell me if the Doremidi foot controller can be used to change presets and banks on my gt1. I have seen a few videos that show it being done using a midi host and a foot controller but also with just the foot controller. It is my understanding that the gt-1 uses system exclusive or sysex messages not cc. I don't know if you need more info than this but if so please let me know, thanks appreciate any info you could tell me. glen.
