I work in scenic automation on Broadway shows. We're looking at the MTC-30 or MTC-30 Pro as our standard timecode converter, feeding Art-Net timecode into a Beckhoff PLC. Before we buy, we'd like to know whether the same unit can also pass MIDI Show Control messages to the PLC.
MIDI Show Control is Universal Real Time SysEx. The messages start with F0 7F, then a device ID, then 02, a command format, a command such as GO or LOAD, an ASCII cue number, and end with F7. They're usually under 30 bytes.
Our questions:
Can the MTC-30 or MTC-30 Pro receive MSC SysEx on its DIN MIDI input and forward it over Ethernet as plain UDP, to a fixed IP address and port?
If so, is the message sent as the raw SysEx bytes, or wrapped in another format such as OSC or Art-Net? Please send any packet format documentation you have.
Can it do the same for MSC arriving over RTP-MIDI?
Can it forward MSC while it is also converting timecode to Art-Net, without affecting timecode accuracy?
Does it filter or block any SysEx types? Is there a maximum SysEx length?
If it can't do this today, is it possible with a firmware update or a configuration setting, or is a different DOREMiDi product a better fit?
Are there any differences between the MTC-30 and MTC-30 Pro on any of the above?
The PLC needs plain UDP. It can't take part in an RTP-MIDI session.
Thank you,
Chuck
