pedal converter for transport control

I have a switch pedal connected to a MPC-20. I am hoping to use that pedal to control transport start and stop in cubase. Has anyone had any success using a MPC-20 pedal for transport? I have tried unsuccessfully using midi remote in cubase to set the MPC-20 as a remote controller. At this point when I press the switch I can see Control 0 0 or Program 0 status in midi even viewer, depending on how I configure the MPC-20.

Can the MPC-20 send MMC data which usually triggers transport functions?
