ROland FD-9 not recognized

trying to use a Roland FD-9 hihat pedal with the MPC-20 and the Config tool software detects the pedal as an expression pedal. When I select check in the software it shows an expression pedal and when I try to set it as a hihat pedal it says wrong pedal

any ideas?
