MPC-20 connection to MacBook Pro . Help needed.

Hello. I am trying to use an MPC-20 with a MacBook Pro . I have successfully installed the latest firmware version 4 point, and the red light on the device shows that it is connected, I can select in the programming software the device, but when I activate a switch plugged into the device, I do not see the visualization of the switch move it all. My goal is to use foot switches to activate different notes. For instance, if I press a switch, I should be able to activate the note that controls a kick drum or a tambourine in GarageBand or main stage. Has anybody had any success with triggering notes with the MPC 20?
